Dad’s Take Your Child To School Day

Dad’s Take Your Child to School Day

We welcomed the dads, uncles, brothers and grandfathers to our cafeteria to join their students as they ate breakfast.  Later, we invited them into the music room to receive complimentary refreshments and to be encouraged by our guest speaker, Mr. Clarence Woods.  There was standing room only as the men that showed up for the event were numerous.  We’re excited to see what next year brings.

More than 30 years of research supports the belief that a positive relationship endures between increased family engagement and student academic success. Additional research suggests that when fathers are actively involved in their child’s education, student’s:

  • Perform better academically;
  • Have fewer discipline problems; and
  • Become more responsible adults.

On September 30, 2015, the Florida Department of Education will observe Dads Take Your Child to School Day statewide. This initiative is a wonderful opportunity for dads or other male role models to get involved in their child’s education and to highlight the significant difference they can make by taking a more active role.
